01 Surrey Manor

Surrey, UK
Floor Area
1500 sq.m

This, our largest residential project to date, began when our client showed us around their 1500 square metre, three-storey mansion set in 40 acres of landscaped grounds and gave us carte blanche to “improve it”.

Designing a client’s home is always an experience in which partnership is vital, and this particular relationship was one of absolute trust from the outset. The result is a unique architectural, interior design and art curation project in which we looked after every detail.

As well as making aesthetic improvements to the exterior of the building, CARPENTE completely remodelled, redesigned and furnished the interior with a guiding principle to allow both light and line of sight to flow freely throughout. On the ground floor, glazed Crittal doors invite guests through a series of interconnecting, individually conceived reception rooms. Luxurious wood panelling, bespoke joinery and furniture feature throughout, with playful touches including secret doors and thoughtfully curated artworks, selected as integral elements of a holistic design scheme.

The central entrance hall houses a stunning curved walnut veneered open staircase. An equally remarkable veneered staircase connects the basement to the ground floor at the east end of the house. Here, a secondary entrance leads through to a new double-height, CARPENTE-designed orangery overlooking a stepped pond set in a tranquil garden. We collaborated closely with a landscape designer to ensure coherence between the house and its immediate surroundings, completing the harmonious transformation.

CARPENTE created a unique chandelier to hang above the bespoke Brazilian Azul Macaubas quartzite table in the dining room, illuminating the crystal grains on the table top.
